The castle retained its original shape

The castle retained its original shape and architecture until the French captured Alexandria in 1213 AH / 1798 AD, and the fortress fell to their hands. The castle received the interest of Muhammad Ali Pasha (r. 1220-1264 AH / 1805-1848 AD), who renovated its buildings, restored its outer walls, and provided it with modern weapons, especially coastal cannons. The citadel continued to be of interest to the successors of Muhammad Ali until 1299 AH / 1882 AD, once the Urabi revolution took place in Egypt and the English fleet struck the town of Alexandria, demolishing its fortresses and striking its fortresses and causing severe damage and cracks to the citadel. The castle was restored in 1982, and the Supreme Council of Antiquities is implementing an extensive project to restore it at the current time
