The most important defensive forts overlooking the Mediterranean. Its construction began when Sultan Qaytbay visited the city of Alexandria in 1477 AD to follow up on its fortification and see how to defend it. He ordered the construction of this castle to protect the most important ports of Egypt.
The Qaitbay Citadel is surrounded by two walls, one from the outside of the building, the other inside the wall, built of huge stones in order to become suitable for the military use of the castle and the ability to face the attack and strikes of the cannons of the armies trying to storm the city
