The tombs are a mix of different styles, including Egyptian, Greek, and Roman. This eclectic mix is a result of the cultural interactions that were happening at the time between these different groups.
The catacombs were in use until the 7th century AD, when they were abandoned after the city was hit by a series of earthquakes. They were rediscovered in 1900 and opened to the public in 2005.
