One of the first railway stations established by the British during their presence in Egypt is Alexandria Train Station. The location of the station is in the city center near all services and the center of postal traffic, and thousands of visitors and travelers flock to it daily. It is characterized by the distinctive architectural style of the buildings of the British occupation in Egypt.
Different configurations of Train Stations exist
depending on where the tracks are located and what features are present. For example, a station that is located where a road crosses the railway will usually be on a different level than the railway. Depending on the location, platforms may be elevated relative to the entrance and buildings may be on one level or another. In large cities, however, you’ll rarely see a train station with platforms and buildings on the same level.
The renovation work on the interior of the station has been completed, including rewiring, plumbing, and heating systems. All the work was done at the Society’s expense, and the station is now maintained by the organization. Inside, there are model trains running around, and knowledgeable railroad enthusiasts are on hand to answer your questions. The new station is expected to open in 2020. This is one of the few places in the city that you can view a fully restored train station in action.
It’s easy to decipher the schedule for train trips, with a large, colorful poster listing the trains at a particular station. In the right columns, departures are marked, while arrivals are indicated in white.
